Heavenly Father, we come to you during a time of great uncertainty. We do not know how long our nation will be stuck in isolation, nor do really have any idea of the magnitude of this Coronavirus crisis. Some of us do not know what our job situation will be at the end of this. Most of us are preparing for some level of financial impact.
We come to you during this time of uncertainty, because we know that you are Sovereign. None of this caught you by surprise. “Though this world, with devils filled, should threaten to undo us, we will not fear for you have willed, your truth to triumph through us!” You truly are our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Ps 46:1). Help us to look to you in confidence and to point others to the truth of your promises in the midst of such frantic times.
Help us to support one another and to be an example of unity and love as we sacrificially give of our time, talents, and treasure to those in need. Give us eyes to see the need and hearts filled with the compassion to do something about it. We trust that you are going to provide for us and care for us during this time.
Be with our medical professionals. Many of them are serving long hours and placing themselves in harm’s way every day. They truly are on the frontlines of fighting this pandemic. Protect them and strengthen them and help them to make the difficult decisions they will be facing in the weeks and months ahead. Provide them with the supplies that are already running low. Turn the hearts of those who began this crisis by hoarding resources, that they might willingly share of their supply. And may your common grace fall upon this nation and world as we seek to love our neighbor with the sacrificial love that you have shown us in your Son, Jesus Christ.
Grant our local, national, and global authorities the wisdom they need to respond to the unprecedented situation they are all facing. May they cooperate with one another and share resources and wisdom to fight the spread of this virus. Many of them are also working long hours in order to support their citizens. May we experience unity at all levels of the government. May political enemies make peace with one another and recognize that we are all created in your image and worthy of fighting to protect.
As we look to an uncertain tomorrow, may we cast our anxieties on you, knowing that you care for us (1 Pt 5:7). Fill us with your Spirit that we might have a peace that surpasses understanding and compassion for the hurting and lost among us. For your glory, we ask it, in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.
